Timothy Titus M.P.H.
Subjects for Training and Public Speaking: Parenting, Chemical Dependency, Prevention, Risk Factors, Risk Assessment, Resiliency, and a new offering of loving to get high syndrome™
Bio: Tim Titus began his work with the Adolescent Chemically Dependent in 1975. He has worked as a counselor in both in-patient and out-patient treatment, as a counselor in the schools and as a prevention specialist in the community. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Health. He is the author of an assessment tool called the Titus Risk Chart. This assessment tool provides parents and educators with an easy to understand overview of what puts an adolescent at risk for Chemical Dependency and the loving to get high syndrome™.
The loving to get high syndrome™: Tim has created a new understanding for early intervention and prevention of drug abuse. His focus is on a young person’s experience of falling in love with getting high. It is his contention that when a young person falls in love with the experience of getting high, they will go out of their way to keep it a secret from their parents. Without knowing it, they will be moving towards Chemical Dependency. Tim provides a clear understanding of this subject, with humor, practical tips for parenting, and a personal story, as the father raising a son who loves getting high.
Family: Tim and his wife Karen have been married for 35 years and they have successfully raised 5 children. Their children are all grown, leading productive lives. This wasn’t always the case. For three years one of their sons kept the secret that he was getting high. Bottom line, he loved getting high so much that he worked extra hard to keep it a secret. He actually lived a double life, one that his parents saw and another one centered on getting high and hanging out with friends who were also getting high.
